Why are there myths about Kitchens by Gedney, anyway?
When you have been around for a while folks talk about you. As a matter of fact, 95% of our clients come from referral and word of mouth. If you provide good products and great service it is not unreasonable that certain assumptions can circulate. Over the years we have seen competitors come and go. They don’t say they’re better… so that only leaves cheaper. The conventional wisdom supports us, but the odd myth can pop up. You owe it to yourself to get the real facts.
Myth 1. Gedney is more expensive.
Truth: We have traditionally carried premium lines of cabinets and products. Over the last 35 years we have emphasized quality. This has never been at the expensive of value. When we are in a competitive situation with the same products we often get the job.
Myth 2. Gedney only carries high-end products.
Truth: Our market is in the mid to high end. We have always had a strong product offering in the middle price levels. Over the last few years we have strengthened this position with the addition of Brookhaven cabinetry. Brookhaven was rated “Best Buy” by Consumer Digest. Our Homecrest line is competitive with “big boxes” with better quality and all the Gedney design and service.
Myth 3. Gedney sells at list or full retail.
Truth: We have always discounted. Even in the hey day of the late 80’s we discounted. Fairness and value has been our compass in a variety of economic conditions.
Myth 4. You can get a “similar” product elsewhere for less.
Truth: The oldest trick in the book. We have been here a long time and carefully picked our lines to offer value to our clients. We will go beyond the surface and explain construction and especially the “intangibles” which can make or break a project.
Myth 5. A nice showroom in Madison…must be expensive.
Truth: Why does providing clean, friendly environment for our clients have to cost more money? It only requires pride, management and care. These are qualities we bring to our projects and don’t necessarily cost more.
Myth 6. Gedney’s installation price is high.
Truth: We do more. Go beyond the fact that we are licensed, insured, on time, and provide fixed costs and fixed start dates and you see appliance installation, vent ducting, screw caps, drop cloths, molding detailing, adjustments, debris removal, and many other services. We install kitchens not just cabinets, there is a big difference. Our installers have an average of 15 years experience in installation exclusively. Our crews are supported by delivery and technical personnel so they are on the job getting it done.
Myth 7. Gedney will only do the whole job.
Truth: We are pleased to do as much or as little of the project as you need. We know how to be a professional sub-contractor or supplier. We can work with your people or provide our own. We will support other trades to help the project go as planned.
Myth 8. Gedney only does Kitchens.
Truth: We have worked with our clients on Baths, Built-ins, Utility Rooms, Libraries, Home Theater, Home Offices, Entertainment Units, Bedrooms, Wet Bars and Hospitality Units. Wherever cabinetry is required we can help.
